AXIS GRAFIX SUBMISSIONS GUIDELINES FOR COMPUTER COLORISTS
7th Spectrum, the computer color department of AXIS Grafix, expects a high degree
of skill in it’s color artists. We place as high a value on our coloring
as we do writing, pencils and inks. Our color artists must have extensive understanding
of color and its uses in the comic book medium. AXIS needs color artists who
can render and sculpt with color creating solidity and depth to the colored
objects; have expansive knowledge of light, shading, color contrasting and harmony;
create defined separation in the foreground, middleground and background; use
color to create mood, drama and enhance the penciler’s and inker’s
work; provide innovative textures, lighting and effects through the use of computer
technology. We expect our colorists to be very learned in the art of color AND
in their computer knowledge.
A Computer color artist’s submission must include:
1. Three (3) to five (5) print out pages of fully colored super-hero/sci-fi sequential art. These pages should be colored over strong black & white art (DO NOT include captions and word balloons). The black & white art used should be drawn with a high degree of skill so as not to reflect poorly on the submitted color work. Please choose your black & white art well. The color work should show different stages of a story and how the color helps to create that particular mood. Use a variety of techniques, effects and schemes to showcase your talent.

The black & white art should accompany each colored sample and should be
the same size as the colored page. The black & white art should be stapled
behind the corresponding color print outs.
3. A detailed listing of the equipment the color artist
used to create the submissions. We also would like to know if the color artist
has knowledge and skill on any other equipment (various platforms, hardware,
software, programs etc…). AXIS Grafix needs to know the complete range
of your capabilities.
IMPORTANT:
AXIS Grafix is a Christian comic book ministry. We ask that you please do not
send submissions which include sexuality, nudity, obscene language or extreme
gore.
A color artist’s submission should also include a cover letter which introduces
the colorist and provides their name, address, city, state, zip, phone numbers,
E-mail address and any other forms of contact.
ALL SUBMISSIONS MUST BE PRINTED ON 6” X 9” or 8 _” X 11”
